Acknowledgements

VAHS acknowledges Dr Chris Fredericks, the VAHS Dentist who is in his 27th year of service in the Oral Health Unit and his continued commitment, dedication and support for providing essential oral health treatment to our community. Thanks Dr Chris.

We also need to acknowledge Dr Alex Thomas who is in his 15th year of service with Oral Health Unit and for his continued commitment, dedication and support to improve the oral health of the community. Thanks Dr Alex.

Funding

VAHS successfully applied for OATSIH capital funding of $54, 000 to purchase equipment for the establishment of the visiting Oral Surgeon. Negotiations are still underway with the Royal Dental Hospital. With the above funding the Oral Health Unit has updated its sterilizers and purchased two new Class B sterilizers. The Unit has also purchased a new ultrasonic cleaner. When the Unit has purchased the necessary equipment, it can commence this valuable service for our clients.

Congratulations

Mali Ingram, following completion and graduation as an Aboriginal Health Worker, successfully applied for the Senior Health Worker position in the Medical area. We wish him all the best in his new role.

Victorian Advisory Committee on Koori Health

The VACKH (Victorian Advisory Committee on Koori Health) Oral Health Sub-committee has been established. Mr Kelvin Onus-King has been instrumental in advocating for this to happen. The VAHS Oral Health Unit Manager, Christine Ingram chairs the Committee. DHSV (Dental Health Services Victoria) has employed an Aboriginal Community Development worker, Richelle Jackson. VAHS advocated and negotiated for this position to be established to support our clients. I would like to thank Joanne Hedges who was on the Interview Panel. Christine Ingram is an active member of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) of Dental Health Services Victoria. Christine was nominated to sit on this committee by VACCHO. VAHS, through Christine Ingram who is a member on Royal Dental Hospital Advisory Committee, has been advocating for are the waiving of the co-payment for all Koori clients that access the Hospital and Community Health Centres. Other issues such as the improvement of access to mainstream services and priority access to services is slowly being implemented.
