We run a variety of fitness classes for all age groups and fitness levels including general classes for staff and Community (VAHS staff and other Aboriginal organisations) these include:
- Strength Classes
- Gentle Gym for Elders
- Monday Night Yoga @ Bubup Wilam
- Saturday Morning Lalor & Darebin parkruns
- Specific event training for healthy lifestyle events such as Fun Runs and Tough Mudder
The Tackling Tobacco Team is a part of the Healthy Lifestyle Team and does work around smoking cessation throughout the Community. The team’s focus is to cut the smoking rates in the Community and close the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
- Client support and education
- Health Promotion/Smoking Cessation education at Community events
- Presentations to youth and other organisations
- Referrals to Quit
The team partners with the Aboriginal Quitline counsellors wherever possible.
The team is always looking to get out into the Community and promote the Healthy Lifestyle message. We do this through setting up our marquee at Community and sporting events in and outside the region to provide information to people on quitting smoking, nutrition, fitness and healthy lifestyles.
We rely on social media including Facebook , Twitter, and Instagram, an SMS service, emails, phone calls and presentations in the Community to promote healthy lifestyles.
